DIRECTIONS (from the site)
From the Bay Area/Sacramento: Take Highway 50 east from Sacramento. Take the first Shingle Springs exit at Ponderosa Road. When you come off the exit, there is a stop light. Turn left on Ponderosa Road and go over the highway. Take the first right at North Shingle Rd. and continue for approximately 4 miles. When you reach the split, stay left on Lotus Road. Continue on Lotus Road for approximately 6 miles and turn left on Bassi Road (There is a stop sign here). Go one more mile on Bassi and turn right into Camp Lotus. Approximate driving time from the Bay Area is three hours...from Sacramento, 45 minutes.

What i think is an important checklist
sunblock sunblock sunblock
towels, soap, shampoo, hair dryer, etc., because there will be showers avaliable afterwards
fanny pack to keep your stuff with you. but remember, don't think the fanny pack will just get wet. IT WILL GET DRENCHED! there's always a possiblity you will fall into the water. if you want, you could keep your keys but put them into 4 or 5 layers of zip lock bags to keep them from getting wet. daniel mentioned something about water resistant bags you can get at sporting good stores. there should be lockers, but just prepare yourself for the worst scenario.
identification to prove you're over 18; male or female.
a change of clothes so you won't need to sit in wet clothes on the way back
NO hats unless you don't care if you lose it.
bring a T-shirt for the rafting trip if you don't want too much of your skin exposed to sunlight.*
sandals with straps (preferably with velcro) that wrap around your ankle. don't bring hong kong sandles that will slip off.
money for breakfast, bridge toll, gas, dinner, souvenirs, tips etc.
don't bring fancy electronics (i.e. cell phone, camera, vibrating dildo) once again, the water issue
small snacks for the 3 hour drive to and from the river.
sunglasses if you're concerned about the sun reflecting off the water, but it was advised for you to attach straps to them so you don't loose it.

I have two waterproof bags although they are kind of big, I think I can bring one of them and stash on the "important" stuff like keys in there. It's a 25L bag, so it's pretty big. Cotton is not advised because it takes the longest to dry....and you will get wet, just goto Sports Basement and buy an 10 dollar tank top that is made of quick dry fabric...also I would bring my glasses and an extra pair of contacts just in case if you have an extra pair. :thumb_up:

I just went to Target and they have tank tops there that are under 10 bucks that will dry fast....good investment!!!

Carpool sounds like a good idear, :thumb_up: although Ricky, Tracy, Dave, Michelle, Khristine and myself need to leave ASAP after the trip to make it to a family dinner. :sad:

i'm not sure of the configuration that we should set for each boat, but let's evenly distribute the muscle power. the boats are set as 4 or 6 per boat (maybe 8), so let's think of the best combination. we do not want all the "weaker" people, including myself, stuck in one boat and allow the current to flow us around. that wouldn't be cool, especially to the guide.

so let's try to get somewhat of a nice even group so we don't decide at 9:25am when we should have departed from the shore at 9:00am. also, let's get this taken care of now so we don't bitch at some people and feelings get hurt at 9:26am.

1)muscle power
2)being physically fitt
3)their and experience with river rafting

reasons for not choosing andy:
1) see picture
2) smokes
3) has never been white water rafting
-also we only have 4 boats for our reservation, so having a 5th would be unnecessary-

reasons for choosing ray c:
1) somewhat a little more muscle power than andy
2) does not smoke
3) never been rafting but other qualities supersedes this

although andy's other qualificatioins were impressive, the decision was based solely upon any or the three determinants listed above. at this moment, we have filled all available captian positions, but i will definately keep his application on file for the future. :thumb_up:

andy, don't think i just bagged on you. if dave asked "Is there a reason why you didn't have Ray W. as a Captain?" i would have said the same.

the only reason why i brought this idea of selecting teams was to distribute the man power. because some people have more strenght than others it would be unfair for one boat to have this advantage.

Okay, here is my REAL thought on things, I agree with Ray W. on it not being fair to have all the "strong" people on one boat, but I do have to mention, I am going to need someone next to me who is of equal size/strength because if I don't, the boat will not be "balanced" and we will not row effeciently, like what I mentioned to Danny, I don't want to be rowing in "circles" granted that's probably not going to happen, but the boat will not go straight if the power is not balanced, so I think I should be on the same boat as David to be honest, you might think this is not fair, but if you think about it, me and David weight the same as four you guys! So we have a weight disadvantage and the remaining members could be like Michelle, Andy, Ray W. Jenny or whoever.

Ricky is right about the weight distribution, and that it is best we distribute the weight evenly. However there's another reason I need someone muscular in my raft sitting across from.

Here's the story:
Last rafting trip, Michelle's brother Derrick and his girlfirend (Sue)were all in the same raft with us. We hit a very rough water and the raft bounced, and out flew Sue into the water. She was positioned between the raft and the mountain, and the raft was closing in on her fast. She's about to be sandwiched, and sandwiched HARD! Derrick was able to stand up, and pull Sue completely out of the water just before she was 1-2 feet away from being crushed by the mountain.

Good points:
1. Have someone strong enough to you pull out of the water sitting across from you.

Bad points:
1. While Sue was in the water, everyone in the raft was in resue mood, and didn't paddle. Which cause the raft to drift free into the mountain. Rule of thumb: Let only one person do the rescuing, and everyone else PADDLE!


No matter what the teams may be, I will be with Michelle.

After talking with Ray W, he shows great concern about dividing up people...

Rick, the team you choose with Tony & Friends + Andy sounds fine. I think my team looks okay too. If there are objections speak now... VALID objections and stop messing around and making retarded for fun teams... we don't have much time and nobody will check this board minutes before we go... so lets gets the "groups" divided ASAP because since we are leaving SO LATE AT 6:00AM, we will NOT HAVE TIME to decide there if people start having problems.

The weight issues seems not to be a important issue... not saying its not valid points, but I do not feel you need 2 powerful and experienced people (3 experienced including Michelle) on the same raft due to weight dist... I'm sure not every group and family who goes rafting has their children and wife weighing in perfectly even...

lets try to keep man power dist fairly... you may think you're gonna have more fun with power paddlers and 4 thighed Oxes on your raft... but its gonna suck for the other group who's raft flipped over because they got over powered... and of course they will blame the raft who took all the horses and oxes first, than the water, than the raft...

I wold like to say that AAA will be providing me a rental car so hopefully tomorrow or friday, I could pick up a trunk, suv, or a van so maybe I could pick up some of you. I am not get those cars because of the trip, I'm also using it for transporting parts for my car.
