Anyone have any opinions on this supported with facts or personal usage or other people using it.

I'm thinking of getting an air purifier, there are different ones on the market..ie: fan and fanless. Trying to see what works, how efficient, and noise and shelf life since it will prob be on 24/7.

I haven't read it yet, but here's a good pdf article on air cleaner vs air purifiers in general:

i have the ionic breeze one. it is super quiet until the fins get dirty. it gets hella dirty like black dirt. makes you wonder wtf your breathing in. i guess it worked. the only thing i didnt like about it was that it made the air smell kinda funny. not bad or stinky or anything like that but it was different. maybe it was fresh air?? i dunno lol

Try to find a consumer report review of it ( so you can possibly see what did get a good review?). I heard it got bad review from them. Bad enough Sharper Imaged sued them... but later they dropped the lawsuit since they probably had no merit. I don't have one but I think they are overpriced.

"So I called Russell Leong, a prominent San Francisco allergist, and asked what he thought of Ionic Breeze. He said he doesn't recommend either that or fan-driven purifiers to his patients.

"The air is never clean, because there's a constant influx of things into the room," Leong said. "You'd have to have your face right next to the purifier to benefit from it."

His advice?

"Save your money."

In your FACE! j/k...

I had a consumer reports magazine that rated the sharper image ionic breeze DEAD LAST, the next to last one performed much better than it and cost alot for not doing much. It was the best at noise level and worst at every other category. Sorry Bew....

Yeah...these are things i heard also....consumer reports said no...it doesn't work..

"Consumers Union utilized testing procedures that were inappropriate for the technology in Ionic Breeze," he insisted. "That produced false and misleading results."

n February 2002, Consumer Reports published a lengthy article reviewing 16 different air purifiers. It placed the Ionic Breeze Quadra model at the bottom of its rankings, saying the device produced "no measurable reduction in airborne particles."

Williams, the Consumers Union attorney, said Sharper Image complained after the article was published that the tests were unfair. (Consumer Reports had placed each purifier in a room and measured how much dust and smoke were removed from the air in a half-hour.)

"They said the Ionic Breeze needed to run longer," Williams said. "So Consumer Reports went back and tested again, this time seeing how much cigarette smoke could be removed over 19 hours. It couldn't even clean the smoke from one-eighth of a cigarette."

Consumer Reports ran a second article on purifiers in October 2003. Once again, Ionic Breeze ended up near the bottom of the magazine's rankings.

"They told Consumers Union again that the test was unfair," Williams said. "So Consumers Union asked what test they'd like to run. They have never, to this day, recommended a test for Consumers Union to do."

but once again...i wanted some opinions from people that tried it....doing something in a lab versus in a real living situation is two totally different things....so that's why I was looking for more 1st base opinions...however, I will not disregard the consumer report testing...just that i heard they were comparing a fanless based system (ionic breeze) to fan based systems (hepa filters)

sherm....is there any chance u can scan that article?
